Overwintered broccoli

2 Attachment(s)
I've been watching the overwintered broccoli starting to take off over the last couple of weeks.

I'm looking forward to putting in a few more raised beds over the coming weeks, and buying this year's seed.

Oh yeah, loving'it!

That broccoli looks ready to eat. Yum! I had cauliflower that survived the winter but just one so we let it go to flower in hopes of getting some usable seeds.

I also have potatoes and garlic that "overwintered". Really, we are on the second generation, with the crop from the first season (which was paltry and I didn't bother harvesting) having become the seed crop for this year's crop. It's been growing all winter and looks very healthy. I've planted the empty spots with eyes from kitchen 'taters and am adding dirt to cover them as they grow and will see what I get.

My garlics last year had minuscule bulbs and I didn't bother to harvest more than a few or even divide them to "replant". So they're coming up in clumps where the whole bulb sat in the ground. I'm not expecting much by way of size, but it'll be good flavor if it comes to it!

I'm starting my seed starters today. We bought LOTS of seed and will see if I can grow enough seedlings to supply some of my neighbors and co-workers.
